NEW UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS PRESIDENT NAMED

 B. Joseph White, the former interim president and dean of the business school at the University of Michigan, was selected in November to become the 16th president of the University of Illinois.  A native of Detroit, Michigan, White, 57, earned his Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Michigan in 1975 after earning a master’s degree in business administration from the Harvard Business School and a bachelor of science in international economics at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service.  Under his leadership, the U-M Business School achieved top ranking for its programs, increased its annual fundraising fivefold, and saw its endowment grow from $35 million to $260 million.  White succeeds President James Stukel, who will retire in February 2005.
